Main Street South and Second Street South Intersection Closure

Beginning June 21 until June 23, 2017, the intersection of Main Street South and Second Street South, including the east portion of Bernier Drive, will be closed to all traffic from 8:00 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Moncrief Construction Limited will be completing road works throughout the night in an effort to reduce the closure impact in this significant intersection.

Road closure barricades will be erected and traffic will be rerouted around the area.

The City thanks the public for their patience while the construction project is carried out.

Lakeview Drive Asphalt Crack Sealing Schedule

Please be advised Northern Crack Sealers will be sealing cracks in the asphalt along Lakeview Drive which may cause traffic delays. The works will take place beginning June 15 until June 18 between the hours of 5 am to 8 am and 6 pm and 9 pm as per the following schedule:

The above schedule may change depending on weather as crack sealing  cannot be performed in wet or raining conditions.

Notice to Rate Payers of All Property Classes

The 2017 Final Tax Bills have been mailed as of Monday, June 12, 2017 for all Property Tax Classes.

The bills are due and payable on or before Friday, July 21, 2017.

Should you require a receipt, please send payment along with the entire bill; do not detach the payment stub. The name/address portion will be receipted and sent back to you. Please retain your tax bill for income tax purposes. The City of Kenora now charges for Tax Statements and Tax Bill Reprints.

Late penalty of 1.25% per month (not compounding) will be charged on any outstanding balance following the due date. Please note that if the bill has a previous balance brought forward, those arrears are subject to penalty July 1, 2017. This will increase the amount shown as owing on your bill. Please allow for 3-5 business days if paying on-line or directly at your financial institution.

Wharf Street Changes

Please be advised Wharf Street in Keewatin has changed to be a ONE WAY street. Traffic now travels in the westbound direction only. There are signs in place to notify drivers of the ONE WAY, single lane street. Parking along Wharf Street has also changed and signage is in place to indicate areas of no parking or limited parking.

Notice is hereby given, that the Council of the City of Kenora passed By-Law No. 62 – 2017 at their Regular Meeting held Tuesday, May 16th, 2017, thereby giving approval to a Zoning By-law Amendment. Notice of the Application was given in reference to Planning File No. D14-17-04.

Location of Property: Trojan Street, lots legally described as 115, 116 & 117 on Plan M39, BLK L; LOC X21. Please refer to the location sketch aside.

Purpose and Effect: To change the regulated zoning of property specifically indicated on the key map, from Residential – Second Density Zone (‘R2’) to Residential – Third Density Zone (‘R3’), to allow for the development of multiple attached dwellings.

The Last Date for Filing a Notice of Appeal is Tuesday, June 20th, 2017.

Other Planning Applications Relevant to the Subject Location: it is anticipated that an application for Site Plan Approval will also be submitted for the subject location.

Only individuals, corporations and public bodies may appeal a by-law to the Ontario Municipal Board. A notice of appeal may not be filed by an unincorporated association or group. However, a notice of appeal may be filed in the name of an individual who is a member of the association or the group on its behalf.

No person or public body shall be added as a party to the hearing of appeal unless, before the by-law is passed, the person or public body made oral submissions at a public meeting or written submissions to the council or, in the opinion of the Ontario Municipal Board, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party.

Garrow Park Upgrades

Please be advised there will be construction crews working on upgrades at Garrow Park beginning Monday, May 22 until Friday, June 16, 2017.  Throughout the three week period, crews will be paving a pathway and building a terraced viewing/seating platform in the park.

While the beach and park area will remain open during this time, residents are asked to use caution around the construction area.

KRC Pool Summer Closure

Please be advised the Kenora Recreation Centre will be closing its POOL on June 30, 2017 to accommodate upgrades to the pool deck and to complete annual maintenance.

The POOL will reopen on September 5, 2017 and we look forward to welcoming you back then.

Garrow Beach Dock Removal

Please be advised the dock at Garrow Beach is set to be removed prior to May 20, 2017.  A replacement dock will be installed by early July. The beach will remain open unless otherwise advised. This infrastructure improvement project is in preparation for the Canada Summer Games rowing event.

Water Dispensing Stations Changes

Please be advised changes are coming to the Smart Cards used at both the existing water dispensing stations: Rabbit Lake Road Water Station and Evergreen Water Station. Current water cards will need to be replaced on or after May 12, 2017. New Smart Cards will be issued at City Hall for a onetime fee of $25. For existing water card holders who have paid a $10.00 deposit on the old card, there is a one time fee of $15 for the new replacement card. New customers must purchase a water card at a cost of $25. The new water cards will be available for purchase at City Hall after May 12th.

The cost of water remains the same ($4.25 per cubic meter), it is only the water card and cost of the card that is changing. This change comes with the installation of new water dispensing units at both water dispensing stations. The installation will take place on May 11, 2017 and both of the water dispensing stations will be out of service for the day on May 11. With new units in place, it is anticipated the water service will be more reliable for our customers.

Fourth Street North and Main Street North Closure Extended

Please be advised that the roadway between 100 block of Fourth Street North and 400 block Main Street North will be closed once again Thursday May 4th from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. to complete the demolition/construction work. Motorists are advised to continue using alternate routes.  Local traffic will be allowed through the area however delays can be expected.

Seventh Avenue South Bridge Vehicle Load Restriction

Please be advised effectively immediately, a vehicle load restriction has been authorized for the Seventh Avenue South Bridge. The maximum gross vehicle weight of 5 tonnes has been implemented, limiting traffic over the bridge to small passenger vehicles only. All other large vehicles such as school buses, emergency vehicles, or construction equipment, are restricted from crossing the bridge. This load restriction has been put in place as a precaution for public safety until further assessment of the bridge is completed.
