Age-Friendly Community Services

Age is only a number not a  state of mind and growing older does not need to be a time of slowing down. In fact, quite the opposite!  Being older usually means you are no longer employed and retirees have the entire day to fill with leisure activities.

By most accounts, today’s Seniors have more opportunities for social activities than their parents generation, so get out and enjoy the company of friends in a social setting such as our area Senior Centres provide. Remember you are only as young as you feel. Kenora area Senior Centres offer opportunities to make new friends as well as enjoy and cultivate existing friendships.

In 2015, The City of Kenora and the Kenora Age-Friendly Steering Committee received funding from the Government of Ontario to develop a strategic plan that would help Kenora in its goal to become an officially recognized age-friendly community. The Age-Friendly Strategic Plan provides an evaluation of Kenora’s strengths, community barriers, and potential action items to address the World Health Organization’s eight age-friendly topic areas.

In addition, an Age-Friendly Service Guide was produced and will be available to the public at various municipal facilities.
